How to Beat the Heat this Summer

The sun has been shining very bright in London over recent weeks. The British who are accustomed to rain and grey have put away their brollies for the time being and can be found hitting balls on the golf course, picnicking in the park or sunning in a beer garden.
You never know how long the good weather will last, which means that it would be a great shame to miss out on the fun. Just remember though to take care of your skin, keep hydrated and stay cool. Here's how:

Drink lots of water:
Being outside under the strong sun can be very dehydrating. It is therefore of great importance that you are constantly drinking water. This is even more true for those who enjoy the nice weather by playing sports. In addition to rehydrating your body, cold water will cool you down, refresh you and make you feel wonderful.
Put on sunscreen:
Many of us think we're invisible. We feel blessed to have a nice dark complexion and feel that the sun doesn't burn our skin. We are wrong. It does burn our skin, even if we don't see it right away. People who wear sunscreen age much better, and reduce the risk of getting sun related diseases like skin cancer.
Stay in the shade:
If you're planning on sitting out all day, try to stay covered. If you want to be in the sun for part of the day that's fine, but every now and then allow yourself some time to sit in the shade and enjoy a cold beverage and a rest. Some time in the shade will cool you down, relax you and keep you comfortable so that you can enjoy more time outdoors.
Eat yummy cold foods:
One of the perks about summer is that we tend to eat lighter, refreshing and delicious foods like big, colourful salads and fruit. Get creative with your meals and treat yourself to a yummy smoothie or some delicious or ceviche. If you're having a sweet craving, there are many cool ways to satisfy it, such as ice cream, ice coffees or Popsicles.
Open your windows:
For those of you who have to be indoors during the nice weather, open up your windows and let a nice cool breeze wash over you. It's not quite the same as being outside, but at least you can feel the outside air as you work, rest or entertain.
The season of enjoying your lunch break outside and waking up early to play tennis has arrived. Enjoy it, but stay cool.
