LAHORE - Number of illegal parking stands in commercial localities of the City are increasing rapidly under the nose of City District Government, which not only is causing traffic mess on the roads but also is causing nuisance for the pedestrians, learnt The Nation on Monday. Moreover, the contractors of the legal parking stands also extended their parking stands by covering the space alongside the stands approved by the City District Government Lahore allegedly in connivance with the officials of Public Facility Department and in violation of the by-laws and contract terms.
Sources in CDG said that the Tax Collection Inspectors of Public Facility Department of City District Government allegedly are involved in minting money and embezzling millions of rupees through establishing illegal parking stands in various business localities of the City and through bogus entries of tax amounts collected from parking stands.
They said that some CDG officials not only allowed their blue-eyed contractors to extend the space of their parking stands but they also are running a number of their own parking stands in various busy areas of the City and are earning millions of rupees through this illegal source of income and never been checked by the higher authorities of CDGL.
Moreover, the tax collection inspectors have also established dozens of illegal parking lots in different commercial areas of the City for minting money.
In this regard they have recruited a number of employees for collecting money from the commuters, the sources added.
The sources further said such officials also are issuing fake stamp parking tickets to the commuters and motorcyclists, which is also a criminal act and a sheer violation of by-laws of CDG as well.
They further said these officials deputed for tax collection from the contractors of parking lots in the City are bound to register this amount in the record books on daily as well as monthly basis.
However, these officials are filling the record registers with false entries of collected amounts and are preparing fake daily reports about collections. They allegedly have misappropriated a huge amount from the taxes and caused loss of millions of rupees to the exchequer of the CDG so far and such practice is going unchecked.
