Google has announced that from next year they will introduce tougher copyright measures, which will include responding to copyright complaints within 24 hours, as well as focusing more on removing copyright infringements from search and their other products. As the web has grown, we have seen a growing number of issues relating to infringing content. We respond expeditiously to requests to remove such content from our services, and have been improving our procedures over time. But as the web grows, and the number of requests grows with it, we are working to develop new ways to better address the underlying problem.
This is good news for publishers, who face an uphill struggle to get companies to take copyright complaints seriously.
In fact it looks like Google has already taken some steps to address the problem, as I have spoken to a number of publisher recently who have noticed that Google is responding to copyright complaints much faster than before.
